Difference between Atoms ,Elements, Molecules, Compounds and Mixtures

                                      Atoms

the smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element, consisting of a nucleus containing combinations of neutrons and protons and one or more electrons bound to the nucleus by electrical attraction. Atomic number equal to the number of protons present in nucleus.

                                   Elements

An element is pure substance  and consists of a single type of atoms. Each atom type contains the same number of protons. An element is a substance that cannot be broken down by either physical or chemical change.Examples : The periodic table of elements is ordered by ascending atomic number. Notice that element can exist as either atoms like Fe (iron atom) or molecules, for example N2 (nitrogen molecule).

                                       Molecules

Molecules  having  same  kind of two or more atoms that are chemically joined together. The atoms of certain elements readily bond with other atoms to form molecules. Molecules do not have an electrical charge on them, and can exist in a solid, liquid, or gas shape with different weights and sizes.

Examples of such elements are oxygen and chlorine. The atoms of some elements do not easily bond with other atoms. Examples are neon and argon

Molecular hydrogen (H2), molecular oxygen (O2) and molecular nitrogen (N2)

                                   Compounds

Compounds having  different  kind of two or more elements  that are chemically joined together with fixed ratios. compounds can not break down in to simpler forms by physical method, they can change by chemical reactions. Compound is completely new substance , the properties of compounds are differ from their elements  properties .

For example, salt is made up of two elements: chlorine, which is poisonous; and sodium, which reacts explosively with water.

All compounds are molecules but all molecules are not compounds.

Compounds are joint together by chemical bonds . covalent and ionic bonds. so compounds divided in to covalent compounds and ionic compounds.

                                    Mixtures

A mixture consist of two or more different substances that are mixed but not chemically combined together.

constituent substances are not in fixed ratio. mixture shows properties of constituent substances . constituent substances can separated by simple physical method.
Mixtures are divided in to two types  1.homogeneous : that means uniform example solutions.
2.heterogeneous :non uniform.
